Lviv (Russian – Lvov) is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine and living monument with long 7 century history. So it is no wonder that the historic center of Lviv is very preserved and included into the UNESCO list of the World Heritage Sites.
Lviv was founded in the middle of the XIII century by Prince Danylo Halytsky and named after his son Leo. The first mention of Lviv chronicle refers to year 1256.
Lviv survived more than 30 wars, sieges and fires, but each time it rose from the ruins. In the architecture of the town whimsically mixed different styles and epochs: Gothic and Baroque, Renaissance and Romanesque, Rococo and Empire, modern eclectic, and constructivism. Lvivpatrons 16-17 centuries invited talented artists from all over Europe, which created a unique architectural gem.
Lviv is full of culture & hostorical significance to Ukrainian history. One can find in Lviv the most beautifull architecture in Eastern Europe and it is no wonder that many who visit the city leave with lasting memories & love for Ukraine.
The population of Lviv is around 850 thousand people.
Cathedral of the Dormition of Mary
Cathedral of the Dormition of Mary is made of stone, three naves, indoor type, with elongated faceted apse.
Its height is 67 meters, width 23 meters. constructively Cathedral resembles a cube, but around the adjusted later many chapels, because of the full amount it has a more complex configuration. Gothic verticality of the building reinforces the high gable roof. Tower on the main facade is baroque structurally completion and is located asymmetrically, as the second tower was left unfinished.
The interior high Beam columns support arches and vault with gothic ribs, walls and vault are covered with frescoes. Inside preserved many works of memorial sculpture.
Park High Castle Lviv is a monument of landscape gardening art of local importance and is part of the NATURAL-reserved fund of Ukraine. The park was founded in 1835. The total area of the park is 36 hectares.
High Castle consists of two terraces: the lower and upper. On the upper terrace is an artificial mound with a viewing platform, the remains of the fortress walls of the castle built by Polish kings, and Lviv telecentre and television relay tower height of 192 meters. The park is growing number of deciduous trees: birch, poplar, ash, linden, maple, sycamore, chestnut, acacia.
Park High Castle is a wonderful place for family holidays or even just walking.
